Our story

It started with a gift we never saw coming.

GiftMemory wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born on a Valentine's Day, at our kitchen table, when our daughter handed us two handmade albums.

Five years ago, Valarie and I got married and created a blended family. It wasn't a simple union — it was a deliberate choice to build something together, knowing full well that blended families are complicated. But I've come to believe that God puts people together not because the road will be easy, but because we need each other to become better versions of ourselves. At times, that feels like a crucible of hard work. But it's also been profound.

We have three children of various ages, each with their own personality and gifts. One of them — our daughter Bradie — has a rare talent that stands out even in a family of generous hearts. She's the kind of gift-giver who thinks months ahead, who understands people deeply, and for whom no cost is too high when it comes to making someone feel seen and valued.

This past Valentine's Day, she absolutely shocked us.

Weeks in advance, without telling us, Bradie reached out to our extended family and friends. She asked them to write letters and share photos — personal reflections about Valarie, about me, about what we meant to them. She didn't just ask for words; she asked people to be vulnerable, to be specific, to dig deep. Then, with incredible thoughtfulness, she compiled everything into a handmade album. Not just one — a personalized album for each of us, complete with photos, handwritten letters, and stories we'd never heard before.

When we opened those albums on Valentine's Day, we were speechless. I remember reading a letter from someone I'd known for years but never quite understood how much I mattered to them. Valarie wept.

It wasn't just a gift; it was a mirror reflecting back all the relationships we'd invested in — all the moments that had accumulated into something beautiful and real.

That night, as Valarie and I drifted to sleep, we talked over the day the way we always do. We replayed it, savored it, let it sink in. Our conversation kept returning to one thought: This. This is the highlight. Not the restaurant, not the flowers — this.

I woke up around 2 a.m., my mind racing. As an entrepreneur, I've spent years solving problems and spotting opportunities, but this was different. This wasn't about business — it was about the realization that what Bradie had created was something almost everyone wants but so few experience. A gift that says, I see you. You matter. Here's proof.

I couldn't sleep. I lay there thinking about all the chapters of life that deserve this kind of celebration: weddings where a bride and groom could receive letters and photos from everyone who's been part of their love story. Graduations where a student steps into uncertainty with tangible proof of belief from teachers, coaches, and mentors. Milestone birthdays, retirements, new babies, anniversaries, recoveries, promotions — all those moments when people ask themselves, Do I matter? Am I loved?

Everyone should be able to give this. Everyone should feel this.

The next morning, Valarie and I started researching. We looked at the market for personalized gifts, memory books, and meaningful keepsakes. What we found was a gap — lots of options for generic gifts, but nothing that truly captured what Bradie had created: an intimate, curated collection of genuine human connection, wrapped up as a gift that someone could hold in their hands.

With my background in technology and Valarie's expertise in sales and marketing, we realized we could build something to fill that gap. Not just a tool, but a platform that would make it easy for anyone to do what Bradie did — to reach out to the people they love, gather their stories and photos, and present them as a gift that actually matters.

That's how GiftMemory was born.

We didn't start this to build a business. We started it because we believe the world needs more of what Bradie gave us. We believe that in a time when connection feels more fragmented than ever, there's profound power in gathering the people who matter most and saying, Thank you. You've made my life better.

So here's to Bradie, to Valarie, and to the belief that business can be a force for good — that profit and purpose don't have to be at odds.

Thank you, Bradie. We love you. And we can't wait to see what happens when thousands of families experience what you created for us.
